Of Regaining Self-Confidence
Wednesday, August 01, 2007

Unlike my brother who is a well-known youth club officer in our village, I barely know the people living in our neighborhood. The only people I know are those that live in the same street as ours. One of them is Liza.

Liza or Len-Len as I call her, is a successful stockbroker in New York. I was really surprised to see her last month. I didn't know that she's gonna be here for a one-month vacation. Unlike before, she now exudes confidence. She really looks different now. Gone are her flabby arms and legs. I guess we could credit Los Angeles liposuction all the physical changes in her. Yep, you read it right. She had her liposuction procedure in Los Angeles. Didn't I say that she is a now a successful stockholder in NY? Of course, she can afford the cost of such procedure.

During college (she's 3 years older thanme by the way), Len-Len wasn't really the type of girl who is conscious of her looks. Her mom, Tita Rhea would often tease her that the reason why she can't get a boyfriend is because she is fat! (EwWwW...harsh!). I guess, it was Tita Rhea's ultimatum to her since Len-Len already tried enrolling to a gym class but she's just too lazy to go to the gym. She only lasted the gym for only two days! (Why am I sensing a feeling of guilt on this? LOL) She has also tried taking diet pills and slimming tea but none of these worked for her. It was only when she left for New York that she started being conscious about herself. Maybe because she's gonna be staying with her cousins who are gifted with having slender body (no matter how much food they eat....wahhhHhh, its unfair!!!). All of them got their boyfriends too. According to her, she would end up being alone in their house during weekends. Her cousins would be busy doing their Friday night out. That's when she started feeling lonely and insecure of herself.

When I got the chance to talk to Len-Len, she revealed to me that she really worked hard and saved even a penny on her pocket just to afford the prestigious Beverly Hills liposuction. When I told her that she could have the same medical procedure here in Manila at a much affordable rate, she revealed to me that she's really afraid of going under the knife and only experts from Beverly Hills liposculpture can "calm her nervous nerves." She's afraid of all those horrible stories of medical procedure that will make you look awful instead of beautiful. When Tita Rhea heard us talking about her liposuction, she said, "Oh yeah, she doesn't have even a grand on her bank account now!!!"

haHaHahaHaha!!! Beauty really costs a fortune nowadays. (,")

Be Flat or Fab?
Sunday, July 29, 2007
About a year ago, Dove has launched a beauty campaign asking women how they define "REAL BEAUTY." One of the questions that was asked was "Be Flattered or Flat?" with a picture of a flat-chested girl and a well-endowed lady. It made me wonder, does bust size really matters? Although many ladies might not agree with me, having a bust size of 36c topped with a contoured and smoother shape of the abdomen are just few of the most common things that a lady would like to have. I can't blame these ladies though. It's the society that defines the standards for beautiful.

I posted a week ago about my sister who is thinking of getting a tummy tuck. I, on the other hand is thinking weather a mini tummy tuck can save my abdomen. I got some not-so-fabulous flabs and I was thinking that MAYBE, having a well contoured abdomen will even make me more confident as I wear those tight-fit dress and shirts.

I was watching Bones and the episode that was airing has something to do with those socialites and other well-known celebrities opting for some beauty-enhancement operations. I was intrigued with the so-called "cosmetic surgeon Los Angeles." From the way it looks, people really go there to have their beauty-enhancing procedures done professionally and with utmost confident. Well, if ever I'm gonna opt to go under the knife in the name of beauty (and assuming that I'll be financially blessed to afford such kind of operation), I would really go for Beverly Hills breast implants.
I got a bust size of 33b. It's really not that bad compared to a friend who would, from time to time, get picked for being 'flat chested.' It was even more awful because another friend, a gay friend, looks more fabulous than we are because, she (or HE? what ever!) just had a breast implant. I'm gonna be honest. Now that 'she' has a bustier front than us, she makes me feel real insecure also! Oh well, so much with breast implants. I just hope that wherever she had her operation done, things will turn out alright. With those fake cosmetic surgeons around, it's really scary to risk a life in the name of being beautiful.

Going under the knife
Saturday, July 21, 2007

My sister who delivered a beautiful baby girl last April has been thinking for a while now of getting a liposuction due to the excess fats that she gained during her pregnancy. She knows that having a liposuction can be quite expensive but it is going to be even more expensive if she is going to have the operation done in Tokyo.

I was hoping from one cable channel to another where I stumbled upon a Hollywood TV-magazine program (can’t remember if it was Oprah or The Tyra Banks Show) where the topic being discussed was going “under the knife.” My sister and I became curious so we stayed tune on that program. On that show, we were formally introduced to the world of getting plastic surgery.” While watching the show, I can’t help but think of some surgical experience here in Manila that went bad due to doctor’s malpractice. Quite scary eh?! Going back to the show, a doctor explained how tummy tuck is different from liposuction. In liposuction, as the doctor illustrated, this procedure will get rid those excess fats in your body BUT, it will leave excess skin (yikes! I hate seeing sagging skin!). In tummy tuck procedure, fats will be removed and after that, a process of removing the excess skin will be done to augment the removal of those stubborn pockets of fats. The way the doctor explained the process was pretty simple yet it was still informative. Aside from boosting one’s self-confidence, having abdomioplasty can also benefit a patient’s health. The program showed some pictures of sagging skin that have been infected with fungus--- a problem suffered by those patients who took bariatic surgery. As having tummy tuck equates to having a skin removal process, you can be assured of that while getting the high self-esteem you need; your health will not be at risk. The program also had some guests who were proud to show their “Los Angeles Tummy Tuck.” I guess, when you say Los Angeles Tummy Tuck, only the best plastic surgeons will be there to get the operation done for you.

Since the “nose” is typically the most prominent feature in a person’s face,
I, on the other hand, has been conscious enough of my nose that I am thinking, “When I get the moolah, I’m gonna have that rhinoplasty procedure!” LOL Kidding aside, I have always envy some of my “mestiza” girlfriends for having the proportion nose (frontal and profile views). Seriously though, I am not that confident when we take pictures because I know that my nose is not that "proportion" Oh well, I am not sure if going under the knife in the name of being “beautiful” is my cup of tea, but who knows? I am not closing my doors… :)
