Will my gown fit me?
Monday, July 23, 2007
"I will not fit the gown, the gown will fit me!"

This was the mantra of one of my fellow bride-to-be's at a local wedding forum where I am subscribed to.

But really, one of the most perennial issues brides like me have to confront everyday is watching our diet in order to fit our gowns. Some would opt for a fast but not so safe way of losing weight- that is taking diet or slimming pills... EwWww! I have tried one before but then again my body reacted twice the intensity that it should. I looked like more of than a "meth dependent" rather tha being sexy. Besides, I don't wanna risk my health with a few months of being slender.

Every time my girl and gay friends and I would dine out somewhere, I would always face the dilemma of "calorie counting."

I remember watching a koreanovela (I'm not sure if it was Kim Sam Soon) where the lead actress would always have her diet book and a handy calculator. She would seriously take down notes of the nutritional content of what she's eating. If she finds out that what she is eating is way beyond her target calorie intake, she would gladly consult her handbook for better food choices. These served as her calorie counter.

Technology is indeed a powerful tool in making the new generation's life even more convenient. Unlike before where you have to manually do a journal of your diet, there are lots of free calorie counter nowadays. I tried subscribing to one but later on the process of registration, it asked for my credit card number. Being the frugal chick that I am, I would never pay for something if I know I could have it for FREE. hehehehehe!

Oh well, I am just crossing my fingers that I will have the 25inch waist-line that the dressmaker took when our body measurements were taken.

Would you say “Hi?”
Saturday, July 21, 2007

I have mentioned in my previous posts that Russell and I were products of cyberspace as we met in an
online dating website. I know that there are lots of free dating sites across the World Wide Web but most of these websites are charging its members some minimal fees in order to penetrate the community. The site where Russ and I met used to be a free online dating community but over the time, the site had to charge its members for premium membership. When I came across the JustSayHi community, I found out that it is absolutely free of charge to be a member. In fact, I even signed up for it and I am now a member! Aside from the possibility of meeting your ‘special someone’ here (just like me!!!), you could, of course build a friendly relationship with people of different age generations and ethnicity. Talk to them anytime that you want; anytime that you need. So, why don’t you try it and say “Hi” :)

Going under the knife

My sister who delivered a beautiful baby girl last April has been thinking for a while now of getting a liposuction due to the excess fats that she gained during her pregnancy. She knows that having a liposuction can be quite expensive but it is going to be even more expensive if she is going to have the operation done in Tokyo.

I was hoping from one cable channel to another where I stumbled upon a Hollywood TV-magazine program (can’t remember if it was Oprah or The Tyra Banks Show) where the topic being discussed was going “under the knife.” My sister and I became curious so we stayed tune on that program. On that show, we were formally introduced to the world of getting plastic surgery.” While watching the show, I can’t help but think of some surgical experience here in Manila that went bad due to doctor’s malpractice. Quite scary eh?! Going back to the show, a doctor explained how tummy tuck is different from liposuction. In liposuction, as the doctor illustrated, this procedure will get rid those excess fats in your body BUT, it will leave excess skin (yikes! I hate seeing sagging skin!). In tummy tuck procedure, fats will be removed and after that, a process of removing the excess skin will be done to augment the removal of those stubborn pockets of fats. The way the doctor explained the process was pretty simple yet it was still informative. Aside from boosting one’s self-confidence, having abdomioplasty can also benefit a patient’s health. The program showed some pictures of sagging skin that have been infected with fungus--- a problem suffered by those patients who took bariatic surgery. As having tummy tuck equates to having a skin removal process, you can be assured of that while getting the high self-esteem you need; your health will not be at risk. The program also had some guests who were proud to show their “Los Angeles Tummy Tuck.” I guess, when you say Los Angeles Tummy Tuck, only the best plastic surgeons will be there to get the operation done for you.

Since the “nose” is typically the most prominent feature in a person’s face,
I, on the other hand, has been conscious enough of my nose that I am thinking, “When I get the moolah, I’m gonna have that rhinoplasty procedure!” LOL Kidding aside, I have always envy some of my “mestiza” girlfriends for having the proportion nose (frontal and profile views). Seriously though, I am not that confident when we take pictures because I know that my nose is not that "proportion" Oh well, I am not sure if going under the knife in the name of being “beautiful” is my cup of tea, but who knows? I am not closing my doors… :)
